What would some of you experienced handcrafters recommend for measuring ph? I have the strips, but I don't feel very confident when using them. Appreciate your suggestions!

I do not measure ph really. If it is made correctly, the soap should be at about a 7. If I think it needs measured, I use the strips, but usually just do the tounge test. if it zaps, like a 9 volt battery, we have a problem.

Thanks Crystal! I should have been a little more specific, duh! I was wondering about testing ph in lotions or other body products. I do make soap too, and the zap test is very reliable :)

Oh that is easy then- just put a dab on the strip, let it set a bit then rinse it off to read it. Alternately you could water a tiny bit down then dip a strip in it.
Phenolphthalein won't work bcse it remains clear unless it is highly acidic -http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phenolphthalein
